What is DM water?
Water with the dissolved minerals taken out.

Not the same water
Drinking RO water and DM water do different jobs.
Drinking RO water is prepared for people to drink. DM water is prepared for industrial and process applications, where dissolved minerals can interfere with equipment, formulation or process requirements. We supply both, always as separate products.

Minerals and ions
Dissolved salts, not visible dirt.
Raw water, and even RO-treated water, can carry dissolved mineral salts. In water these split into electrically charged particles called ions. A DM system removes dissolved ions to a much greater degree than drinking-water treatment does.
Why some industries need it
Not every factory needs it. Some processes do.

How DM water is made
From RO-treated water to demineralised water.

Stage 1
Start with RO-treated water.
DM production begins after reverse osmosis. RO has already held back dissolved salts and fine impurities, so the DM stage starts with cleaner water and has less to remove.
Why it matters Starting from RO-treated water lets the resin stage focus on the dissolved ions that remain.
Stage 2
Remove the dissolved ions in the DM resin and mixed-bed system.
Resin beads in the vessels swap the dissolved mineral ions in the water for hydrogen and hydroxyl ions, which together simply form water. Cation resin takes out positively charged ions such as calcium, magnesium and sodium. Anion resin takes out negatively charged ions such as chloride and sulphate. In a mixed-bed system both resins work together.
Why it matters This is the stage that makes it demineralised water.

TDS and conductivity
What the two checks tell us.
TDS (total dissolved solids) is a measure of the dissolved material left in the water. Conductivity shows how readily the water carries an electric current, which rises as dissolved ions increase. Together they show how much dissolved ionic material the water still carries. Both are checked in-house as part of the DM workflow before the water goes out. Applications differ, so the requirement is agreed with you per application, and we do not publish figures on this page.
